Bring a place, experience, article, species, possibility or concern. Use the prompts with an AI, another person, a notebook or direct observation; the inquiry does not belong to Spiralweb.
Develop a provisional roadmap, keep a light record, print a PDF or adapt an operational format to local language and practice. A local adaptation can be useful in its own right.
Keep useful notes, explore a question with people around you and revisit it as experience grows. Let what you learn serve the people and place involved.
One possible arrangement is to keep Café Sofia or Spiralweb Papers open beside an AI. We share the material and our way of working with it; the place, experience, judgement and responsibility remain with the people using it. AI is optional; a notebook, a conversation, direct observation or an existing local practice may be the better second window.
Describe the place, situation, article, species, possibility or concern in your own words. You do not need to translate your life into Spiralweb language before beginning.
Ask AI to read relevant Papers, follow sources, compare explanations and help locate actors, conditions and possible next steps—without treating fluent synthesis as local truth.
Walk the place, speak with people, notice a species, draw a map, keep a notebook or use a practice already trusted locally. The Spiral and formats can be used on paper, translated into another form or left aside.

A living question can start with one thing you have genuinely noticed. Orientation may grow as you move; complete understanding is not the entrance fee.
Datasets and models can widen attention, but seasons, bodies, memory, species and everyday practice disclose conditions that a distant account may miss.
Grounding does not make one position final. It helps keep observation, inference, authority, uncertainty and consequence visible while one responsible next movement becomes possible.
Every policy, price, design or investment eventually meets bodies and places. Good intentions do not cancel the need to notice where consequences actually land.
Shared patterns may travel without making every place alike. What propagates well is a capacity to observe, adapt and return—not a model imposed unchanged.
Care, attention and responsibility have bodily limits. In Spiralweb’s inquiry, the capacity of stewards to continue is part of what we follow alongside the living place.
Success in one register does not buy permission to ignore damage elsewhere. Land, life, steward viability and the commons must remain separately visible.
Resources can protect time, continuity and practical capacity without purchasing local authority, ownership of knowledge or control over a living place.
Stewardship is often treated as voluntary background labour while value moves elsewhere. A living economy asks how care can become materially viable without turning life into a commodity.
AI can connect sources, expose questions and accelerate comparison. It cannot supply local consent, lived consequence or the final human judgement about what should move.
These movements may recur, overlap, pause or change the original question. They are an orientation, not an application sequence.
Begin with something real enough to return to.
Name where, when, for whom and under which conditions it arises.
Keep observation, experience, memory, data, interpretation, hypothesis and hope separately readable.
Explore ecological, bioregional, cultural, legal, institutional and economic relations.
Invite another AI, person or knowledge tradition to question the account. Check important sources directly.
Take only a consented, reversible movement that the people and place can carry.
Notice what happened. Revise, continue, pause, stop or share learning with its provenance and uncertainty intact.
These prompts were written by Spiralweb and carry our framing. Question them, rewrite them, ask another person or AI what they omit—or do not use them. A second AI introduces another reading; agreement between models is not verification.

I am in [place], and this is what I have noticed, need or want to explore: [describe it in your own words]. Help me identify the pages, ideas and optional tools that may be useful. Explain them in language appropriate to me. Do not assume that I am affiliated with Spiralweb, that its methods fit my context, or that publication creates local authority.
Help me build a provisional roadmap for this question. Keep distinct: my direct observations; bodily or lived experience; local memory and testimony; measurements or records; documentary and scientific sources; interpretations; working hypotheses; values and hopes; and what remains unknown. Investigate relevant watershed or bioregional conditions, species and habitats, history, law, institutions, local actors, existing practices, rights, funding possibilities and competing explanations. Follow important sources and link to them directly. State what requires local verification, specialist competence, consent or protected handling. Do not design or act on behalf of the people concerned.
Act as an independent critical friend to the material below. Do not improve its rhetoric first and do not assume that coherence is truth. Check whether the sources support the claims attributed to them. Identify missing evidence, competing explanations, category errors, cultural assumptions, hidden power, absent affected people, ecological or legal risks, non-reversible proposals and places where AI fluency is being mistaken for situated understanding. Distinguish what appears useful, what requires qualification, what remains disputed and what can only be learned through people and place. Do not claim to validate the work or redesign it on others’ behalf.
Compare the provisional roadmap with the critical reading. Preserve important disagreement rather than forcing consensus. Help me see: what is sufficiently supported for orientation; what I should verify in the original sources; what local people or specialists should be asked; what my own experience supports or complicates; what the place may be able to show through careful observation; what consent and privacy conditions apply; and what one small, reversible next movement we can responsibly carry. Name what would make us revise, pause or stop. The final judgement and responsibility remain human and situated.
Help us organise our own provisional inquiry or protocol from the material we have developed. It belongs to the people and context creating it, not to Spiralweb. Make visible its purpose, holders, affected people and more-than-human life, place and timeframe, observations, sources, hypotheses, uncertainties, consent conditions, responsibilities, optional tools, one bounded next movement, documentation burden, correction route and reasons to pause or stop. Do not imply validation, funding readiness, institutional affiliation or authority that has not been established.
The five formats may help preserve observation, review, bounded action, decision memory and financial traceability. Translate, rename, adapt, combine or leave them unused. Existing local practices may fit better.

A land-based starter set to adapt or replace through local knowledge.
Hold one short period, named responsibility and what must not begin yet.
Preserve why something was decided, revised, paused or stopped.
Connect an in-scope flow with purpose, evidence and lived effect without replacing accounting.
A bird, insect, plant, fungus or other organism may be the beginning of an inquiry: what is present, what has changed, what habitat it needs and who already knows the place.
An AI suggestion or photograph is not proof. Check possible lookalikes, season, behaviour, habitat, local records and people with relevant experience. Absence from a database is not proof of absence.
Sensitive species, nests, sacred or vulnerable places and private land may require obscured locations or no public record. “Native”, “introduced” and “invasive” require local ecological and legal context.
Local inquiry may begin in the language people use to live, remember and work. AI may assist translation, but translation is a bridge—not a replacement for local terms, meanings or the right to correct how a place is described.
Use these materials in your own workbench, with people around you and in the places you care about. Keep, adapt and share what is useful within those relationships, on terms that fit the people and knowledge involved. Independent use is complete in itself; no report to Spiralweb is needed.
